Join Professional
Home Inspection Institute's experienced instructors and other course participants in the field. This hands on training
will give you the opportunity to apply the skills you have learned in the energy auditing and weatherization course.
You will install a blower door and measure building tightness, use a thermal imaging camera to identify insulation
gaps and air leaks and test furnaces and ducts in the home.
This optional training takes place at our facility in Madison, South Dakota. See below for information about making
travel arrangments.
This field lab is available free of charge to PHII students who have enrolled in the Certified Weatherization
Contractor or Certified Energy Auditor packages. See below*
Experienced Instructors
Larry Malcolmb
Larry has over 25 years experience in the weatherization industry. During that time he has been involved with weatherization
projects in new home construction as well as existing residential homes. He is experienced with blower door testing,
insulation remediation, hvac analysis, diagnostic testing, mechanical ventilation, combustion appliance testing,
and infrared cameras. Larry is very familiar with codes that apply to new home construction and existing residential
homes in terms of weatherization and he helps bring that hands-on knowledge to both the interactive training programs
as well as the hands-on labs offered by Professional Home Inspection Institute. Larry is available to do on-site
training in Madison, SD and can also travel to your location to hold a training seminar.
Roberta Anderson
Roberta Anderson has been working in the weatherization field with the local community action agency for over 7
years. Prior to that she worked at a mobile home factory for 8 years. Her background with weatherization and mobile
homes has combined to give her expert knowledge in weatherization techniques for new and existing mobile homes
as well as stick-built residential homes. She is familiar with weatherization techniques for furnaces, leaky ducts,
ventilation, and insulation in older homes as well as new construction. Roberta is available to do on-site training
in Madison, SD and can also travel to your location to hold a training seminar.

If you live out of the area and wish to travel to Madison, South Dakota to attend a training lab, we can help you
plan the best method of air or ground travel. We are familiar with the airlines and rental services that service
this area, so please call us before making permanent travel reservations as we may be able to help you find the
best routes to take, or the most economical fares.
Lodging
PHII students receive discounts at two hotels in the Madison, South Dakota area. The Super 8 offers our students
a rate of $45 per night for one bedroom. The AMERICINN offers PHII students a standard room rate of $59.90 per
night and $10 extra for a mini-suite or $15 extra for a family suite if you want to bring the family and take a
